Active Learning

Autumn 1 - Week 1

We have used our active learning time to explore our new classroom and settle into our environment.

We have found lots of fun activities to do and we are constantly learning through our play and building our relationships with our friends.

This week we have enjoyed;

  • using the magnets to investigate magnetic materials.
  • making and mixing porridge in our Goldilocks role play area.
  • counting with our maths resources.
  • building in the construction area.

Autumn 1 - Week 2

This week we have enjoyed lots of Active Learning outside. We love our outside area! Especially searching for acorns and using the trim trail.

Autumn 1 - Week 3

This week during our Active learning time we have had lots of Active Learning both outside and inside. We have been building on our positive relationships and making new friendships amongst Heron Class. It has been lovely to see all of our Herons getting along; caring, helping, sharing and all playing together.

"A loving heart is the beginning of all knowledge." - Thomas Carlyle.

Autumn 1 - Week 4

This week we have really gotten into our topic this term of 'Once Upon A Time...'. We have loved listening to and reading traditional tales and have particularly enjoyed learning about The Little Red Hen this week. During our Active learning sessions, we have loved recreating some traditional tails and inventing our own, using the puppets, masks and puppet theatre. We have used our imaginations and told some wonderful stories using these props.

Autumn 1 - Week 5

This week we have been enjoying construction and building a range of objects, lands and pictures using a range of materials both inside and outside. We have been using our imaginations to create new ideas using; crates, blocks, LEGO and sticklebricks. We have been able to play with our buildings using a narrative and creating our own back stories to our creations. Take a look at what we have been making below...

Autumn 1 - Week 6

This week we have been enjoying our outside Active Learning time. We have been building our relationships with our peers, helping, caring for each other and sharing during our play. We have really enjoyed using the balance bikes this week and our friends have been helping us to put on our helmets to keep us safe! We are very kind and helpful Herons! smiley

Autumn 1 - Week 7

This week we have enjoyed exploring and using some of the new toys and resources around the classroom. We have a new role play area - The Little Red Hen's bakery. We love playing together, using the baking and cooking toys to recreate the story and also create our own imaginative play and narratives. We have also taken our learning from Maths outside, building our own tents using the crates and counting out how many children can fit inside!

Autumn 1 - Week 8

This week we have enjoyed lots of outside Active Learning time. We have really enjoyed taking our Phonics learning outside. Some of us have been practicing our Phonics sounds by writing the sounds in chalk and recognising the sound in words. We have also used different writing materials to write our names including; chalk, sticks and dirt.
