Autumn 2 - Week 1
We have introduced our new traditional tale; 'The Gingerbread Man' this week. We read the story and then we went on an investigation to save the gingerbread man before he could run away. We had to follow a series of clues by identifying the initial sound of the place he was hiding. We had to think logically about the clues he had given us to work out the answers. We worked as a team and managed to find the Gingerbread man before it was too late!
Autumn 2 - Week 2
This week in Literacy we have written our own shopping lists, focussing on the initial sounds of the ingredients we need to make our very own Gingerbread Men in preparation for our trip to Tesco. We recognised the main ingredients to be; butter, sugar, eggs, ginger and flour. We used our knowledge of Phonics to sound them out together and write our lists.
Autumn 2 - Week 3
This week in Literacy, we have been looking at a new traditional tale; 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears'. We received a letter from Goldilocks asking us to recreate the perfect bowl of porridge she loved so much at the Bears' cottage. We designed and planned out our very own perfect bowl of porridge which would be 'just right' for Goldilocks, using adjectives to describe the texture, taste and ingredients of our porridge. We could choose from; raisins, sprinkles, sugar or syrup as our topping for Goldilocks. We then used our plans to make the porridge in our Topic session.
Autumn 2 - Week 4
There has been a crime scene in Kingfisher class this week! Both Heron and Kingfisher class worked together to solve the crime and identify the clues from the crime scene. There was porridge spilled on the floor, brown footprints, bears at the table and locks of golden hair left on the floor. I wonder who was responsible for the crime? Our Herons discussed the possibilities and used reasoning to explain their thoughts and opinions. We then designed and wrote a WANTED! poster describing the criminal responsible for messing up Kingfisher Class! We had lots of fantastic and imaginative ideas using the story 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears' to help us.
Autumn 2 - Week 5
In Literacy this week we have started to read and focus our learning on the traditional tale; 'Jack and The Beanstalk'. We enjoyed listening to the story and joining in with the Giants speech! We recreated the story by acting out main parts such as stealing the Giants treasures. We took on the roles of the Giant and Jack and identified objects from the story in the Giants chest. We then identified the initial sounds of the objects and matched the words to other rhyming words. We then wrote a letter to the Giant to explain why we would/wouldn't return his treasure.
