Autumn 2 - Week 1
In our first week back we have been looking at patterns. We have discussed what makes a pattern and that we can use; pictures, numbers, letters and colours to create a repeating pattern. We made patterns using cotton buds and paint, recognising both ABAB and AABB patterns. We then looked at 'silly patterns' to identify and rectify the mistakes.
Autumn 2 - Week 2
This week we have been learning about 2D shapes, identifying shapes and their names and also discussing the properties of them. We have been playing the game 'shapes in a bag' in which we have had to investigate what shapes were in the bag by using our hands and sense of touch. We described the properties of the shape to the class and identified which shapes it could/couldn't be.
Autumn 2 - Week 3
This week we have been practising our Wriggly Nativity and have taken part in rehearsals ready for our performances. We have had a range of Maths activities accessible to us during Active Learning time. The Maths focus this week has been all around 2D shapes.
We have completed activities such as;
- Paint printing with 2D shapes and sponges.
- Tracing and labelling 2D shapes.
- Matching 2D shapes to shape names and properties.
- Shape monsters interactive whiteboard game.
- Making shape pictures using tissue paper shapes.
Autumn 2 - Week 4
This week, we have been very busy in our final rehearsals preparing for our Wriggly Nativity performances. In between our rehearsals, we have had access to a range of Maths activities during Active Learning. Our focus for this week has been positional language. We have completed activities such as;
- playing hide and seek and identifying positions.
- Using positional language to describe where an object is.
- Completing maze games.
- Completing obstacle courses and making paths.
- Matching position pictures and positional language.
Autumn 2 - Week 5
This week in Maths we have been using loops of string to create 2D shapes using our knowledge of their properties. We discussed how many children they would need to create the shape and also how many sides and corners the shape would have and if the sides would be straight or curved. We worked together in groups to make the shapes.
