F2 Puffin Class

Welcome to Puffin Class

We are a class of 30 Foundation Stage 2 children. Our teacher is Mrs Williams and Mrs Hammond works with us too. Here you will find key information as well as everything that we learn and achieve whilst at school.

There are many ways to keep in touch and up to date with the things that are happening within our class.

You can read examples of our work on our class blog: http://puffin.norbridgeblogs.net and see pictures of our learning both on our Twitter page https://twitter.com/puffin_class (@puffin_class) and on the pages that follow below.

Key Dates

Friday 25th May 2018 - End of Summer Term 1

Monday 4th June 2018 - Summer Term 2 begins

P.E

Children will take part in a weekly P.E session with Mr Scott. Please ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school. Our P.E session is on a Monday afternoon.

Book Bags

Children will be provided with a reading diary and reading book. Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and diary to school each day. Diaries will be signed each week and children will be given the opportunity to change their reading books weekly. Don't forget to record your reading at home to help you earn stickers on our reading chart so that you can attend the reading party!

Water Bottles

Please ensure that your child brings fresh drinking water each day. It is important to label bottles with your child's name to avoid them getting mixed up. Plastic bottles can also be purchased from our school office.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each term a home learning book will be sent out with a range of activities and tasks for you to complete together. Your child many choose which task they would like to complete each week.

Home learning books will be collected in each Wednesday and will be sent home again each Friday. Please make sure that your child is reminded to put their home learning book in the blue box in our classroom.

adVENTURErs

This year all children will take part in skills based learning sessions in addition to what is taught inside our classroom. Our sessions include Eco - Warriors gardening club where children take part in activities based on our environment and the world in which we live. Singing club where children are taught basic musical skills, developing a love of songs. Balance bike club where children are encouraged to take part in activities building up to riding a bike. Sports games club where children take part in many different activities including ball skills and gymnastics. Also yoga club where children take part in learning using the Cosmic Kids programme.

If your child takes part in Sports games club it is important that their P.E kit is in school each Tuesday.

This Week In Puffin Class...

This week in Puffin Class we have taken part in many exciting activities.

We have continued on our Fit 15 journey, aiming to enable us to have healthy bodies and minds. Our children and adults are encouraged to take part in a daily 15 minute session of activity, this could be running, jogging or simply keeping moving.

We have also explored a world of water during our Caterpillar Music session with Ali. We investigated how water is used each day as well as thinking about where our water comes from.

During French we have listened to stories about animals and begun to recite animal names. We have also practised greeting one another.

PE with Mr Scott has been another wonderfully exciting addition to our week. Most recently we have been thinking about ball skills and ended our week with a fast paced game of tracking, throwing and fielding.

During our Mathematics sessions we have concentrated on solving problems based on sharing. We have really enjoyed listening to the story 'The Doorbell Rang' and focussing on sharing objects between odd and even numbers of people.

During our Literacy sessions we have been thinking about using description in our writing. We have thought about animals that we may see whilst on Safari and used words such as tall and fierce to describe them.

Summer Term

In the Summer Term our theme is The Great Adventure. Percy Puffin has disappeared and it is our job to find him. Can Puffin Class solve the mystery and bring back our class mascot?

This Week In Puffin Class...

This week we have been learning about Aelita Andre, a young abstract artist from Australia. We have used our class blog to share our thoughts about her art work and also created our own abstract art.

P.E

Throughout the Spring Term our P.E sessions will focus on ball skills. We have begun by taking part in Hockey based activities. This week we have used our new outdoor games court to practise moving the ball around using a hockey stick. We also learnt very important rules that we must follow when using new tools and equipment.

Cave Art

To begin our journey into Art we have begun exploring the subject from the very beginning. We have taken part in research around the history of Art and found that one of the first art forms was Cave Art. We then tried to create our own Cave Art using chalk in our outdoor areas.

Welcome Back

We hope that you have had a wonderful break and are well rested and ready for the term ahead. During the Spring Term our topic will be 'Listen to your Art', an exciting adventure into the world of all things creativity. We will explore the beginnings of Art and discuss what we think of when we hear the term Art. We will also explore artists and art galleries as well as performance based activities such as dance, music and drama.

The day the Giant came to visit

Something strange has happened in Puffin Class! On Monday morning we were met at our classroom door by lots of mysterious footsteps. Footsteps that were too big to have come from any of the adults or children in Puffin Class. As we walked into our classroom we noticed that an enormous bean stalk had grown behind our board. A note had been left for us, explaining that we needed to complete lots of tasks to win the giant treasure.

This Week In Puffin Class

This week in Puffin Class we have taken part in many activities. We have been thinking of lots of new sounds during Phonics time. During our Maths sessions we have been thinking about ordering lengths heights and capacities. We have also taken part in Caterpillar music where we thought about what we can see when we look up.

Our new topic this half term is Our Wonderful World and we will be thinking about the place in which we live and those who live with us. We will be looking at and comparing homes as well as making maps of our area.

Build A Bear

On Friday 20th October 2017 children from Puffin Class went on an exciting adventure to the Build A Bear workshop in Meadowhall. The children took part in choosing and naming our class mascot. They have chosen a dog called Bob.

Percy the Puffin

Each evening Percy the Puffin chooses to go home with someone who has impressed him during the day. To have the chance to take Percy home children have to:

Be a kind friend

Try hard to make the right choice

Use your hands for helping.

Percy has chosen to go home with these OUTSTANDING children so far this week.
