Today we have researched the religion ‘Christianity’. We have taken part in lots of different activities including: reading stories, drama activities, making bread, designing posters and finding out about different Christian celebrations. We have also talked about the Christian community and built a Christian church. We then used this to act out a ‘day in the life of a Christian’. This week in English we have been thinking about what we could include in a scary story. We talked about the BFG blowing wonderful dreams into bedrooms and we decided we would change the story to scary dreams. We then made a bottle full of scary creatures.

On Friday Year 1 visited Eureka which is a wonderful Science Museum. First children got to explore the ‘All About Me’ section where they discovered how amazing and unique the human body is and how and why you should keep it as healthy as possible. Next the children visited the global garden where they got to find out about plants that live in six different environments. After that the children explore the Town Square. Here they got to discover how things work in a real size house and garage. Finally the children got to explore the world of work; use maths in contextual setting to count, weigh, measure, estimate and compare. Before heading home the children took part in a Superhero Science workshop where they got to watch lots of different science experiments using fire and electricity.
This week in French we have been learning to sing French songs.

The children tried extremely hard in their phonics test this week. We celebrated their achievements with a phonics party.

Today in English we followed instructions to make a drink for the BFG. We then designed labels to tell the BFG what was inside it.

This week in Athletics we have been taking part in relay races.
This week in Maths we have been working in teams to answer number problem questions.
Today in music we listened to The Little Train of Caipira. We discussed the music and how we thought the train was travelling. We decided it was travelling fast and downhill. We then looked at the painting-Coming from the mill by C.S Lowry and discussed the sounds we could make to fit the painting’s mood.
Today in Maths we have been describing position, direction and movement. We had to use directional language to direct our friend through a maze.
This week in Gymnastics we have been learning how to do 'teddy roles' and 'headstands'.
This week in French we have been learning how to recite a poem.

Today in Maths we divided shapes into halves and quarters. We discussed that a half is two equal parts and quarters are four equal parts.

Today in Art we have been using different patterns skills to paint flowers.
Today in Computing we used coding skills to design a washing machine. We thought about what a washing machine's purpose was and then we had a go at designing a washing machine with a twist. We had some great ideas including: a washing machine that fired out sweets, a washing machine that had traps set for adults and a washing machine that turned clothes into chocolate.

Harley Gallery Trip
On Monday we went on a trip to the Harley Gallery. The Harley Gallery is where new and old come together, with historic displays from the Portland Collection and the new exciting Circus exhibition. Firstly, we had a tour around the Gallery we then had small shots from pictures and we had to explore the gallery to find out which picture they came from. Next, we listened to music from the circus and had a go at drawing some of the photographs on display. We then got to dress up like we were part of the circus and do a circus pose. Finally, we took part in a circus workshop where we got to use every day materials to make our own circus. We then performed our show to everyone.
Today in Science we have been learning to recognise, name and group common animals. We also learnt the names of the categories that animals are most often grouped into; mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. We discussed the things that the animals in the group had in common.
At our tables, we worked together to sort the animal picture card using set criteria, such as; has fur or has feathers.
This week in Maths we have been learning to tell the time. We looked at what activities you could complete at different times of the day.
This week in PE we have been learning how to play tennis.
This week in French we have been learning to say different colour names.
This week in Science we have been researching and investigating different materials. We had to decide which piece of material was best for a particular purpose.
World Book Day
Today we have voted for our favourite tasty treat created by children. We then shared our favourite books and made magic wands to eat whilst listening to lots of different stories.
Maths Pirate Day
This week we were recruited by Captain Hook to help him share his treasure. We had to do some tricky fraction work but we managed to complete all the tasks. We were rewarded with a key that opened a treasure box full of wonderful things.
This week in art we have been drawing Pirates. We then thought of different names we could give them.
This week we have been reading sentences and matching pictures to words.
This week we went back to the 1920's. We had a look at the fashion, toys and what children did for fun. We then had a go at some 1920's dancing.
Pirate and Fairy Blogging

This week in Maths we have been learning all about 3D shapes. We then had a go at making a junk model using boxes and identified what 2D shapes we could see.
Today in Computing we have discussed the word ‘memory’ and found out how to record using an i-pad. We then worked in pairs to record each other talking about what we would research using Google. We then practised transferring our videos to a computer using copying and pasting. Finally, we watched how you pause, stop and play recordings and discussed why we have these buttons.
This week in Science we have been learning about the human body. We had a go at labelling it.
Today in History we looked at the different ways humans have travelled. We then used a timeline to put the different ways to fly in order and discussed who the Wright brothers were. Finally, we had a go at making our own paper aeroplane and discussed what makes a good aeroplane.

This week in French we have been learning to talk about the weather.
This week in Maths we have been using our number bond knowledge to solve number problems.
This week in art we have been designing pirate ships. We looked at the different features of pirate ships and added our own features. We then added an island and under water features to our pictures.
Today in Science we have been looking at animals and their young. We have also been looking at how animals grow. We then matched the animal to their young.
Today in Computing we worked in groups to become familiar with the keyboard. We had to find different buttons on the keyboard and navigate the mouse to different areas on the screen. We then used word to change the colour, size and text of the writing we had produced. After we discussed different styles to suit different purposes. We said that if we were making a scary title we would use red and black.
This week in art we have been designing a treasure map. We have been thinking about traps we can include to keep our treasure safe.

Today in History we researched the Great Fire of London. We made the following notes:
-The Great Fire of London started in a bakery in 1666.
-St Paul's Cathedral catches fire.
-They used gunpowder to blow up houses.
-People received gifts for helping with the fire.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park Trip
Today we visited Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Yorkshire Wildlife Park is the UK's No.1 walk-through wildlife adventure. It was a very cold and wet day but we still had lots of fun. We got to meet lots of different animals including: lions, tigers, giraffes and polar bears. We also had a workshop where we got to hold an African snail, a cockroach and a lizard. We discussed different animal body parts and found out about the job of a zoo keeper.
This week in Maths we have been using our number bond knowledge to add three small numbers together. We also started to use peer assessment and checked over our friend's work.
This week in English we have been writing diary entries about a dog with three legs. We talked about different feelings and how the dog overcome his barriers.
This week in Science we have been discussing different plants we eat. We then talked about the different parts of the plant we can eat.
This week in Maths we have been measuring using cubes. We then discussed measuring in cm and had a go at measuring different items in the classroom.
This week fairies visited our classroom. They had been frozen by the wicked witch. We made potions and started to write setting descriptions.
This week in Art we have been using different coloured paper to make a lion collage.

This week in PE we have been playing invasion games. We have been learning about how to move around in different ways and how we can use this skill in different sports.
This week in RE we listened to the story 'The Monkey King'. We discussed how this story comes from the Buddhist faith. We then discussed how the different characters in the story would be feeling. We talked about the word 'sacrifice' and the different sacrifices we have made in our lives. We ended the lesson by acting out the story.
This week in Geography we have been finding out about lots of different animals. We then had a go at writing our own animal fact file about lions.
This week in French we have been learning to say the days of the week and different colours.
Today in Science we have looked at the life cycle of a bean. We then had a go at drawing the different stages.

This week in English we have been designing different characters. We have been thinking about what adventures they could go on. Finally we designed an adventure island full of different opportunities for adventures such as a volcano waterfall.
This week in History we have been discussing the word 'timeline'. We talked about different events in our lives and then had a go at making our own timeline.
This week in RE we read the story 'Be My Guest'. We then talked about how hard it would be to give away something that you really wanted. After we designed our favourite meal and then gave it away to a friend.
This week in Art we have been looking at different animal pictures. We then had a go at drawing our own safari animals using chalk.
We had lots of fun at the Halloween Disco. We played games and danced to lots of scary songs.
This week in Science we have been researching different types of plants. We have been looking at what makes them different and what makes them the same. We have also been researching what plants need to grow. We then labelled a plant.
Today in Geography we looked at hot and cold countries. We researched what the weather was like in different countries and the reasons behind this. We then looked at different animals and discussed what country we think they are from and why.
Today in RE we researched the word 'Langar', We discussed the meaning behind this word and then designed our own Langar meal.
Today in Science we discussed where different animals live and the reasons behind this. We then sorted animals into different categories. Finally, we discussed why animals don't all have the same habitat and why they have certain surroundings in their habitat.

Today in Science, we looked at a range of things and discussed whether they were living or non-living. We noticed that living things can usually move by themselves, grow, breathe and eat. We also discussed how some things can be living and non living, for example-a leaf.
Today in Geography we looked at weather forecasts. We discussed what the weather had been like this week and watched a weather forecast on the BBC. We discussed how it was presented and the key vocabulary used and then had a go at presenting our own weather show.
This week in RE we discussed what the Bible is and who it is special to. We then read the story of the Good Samaritan and talked about helping others. Finally, we worked in groups to act out the story and watched them together on the board.
This week in art we had a go at matching marks to words. We tried out lots of different sketching techniques.
This week in Maths we have been counting to 100 and doubling numbers.
Today was music day and we got to try out lots of new things. We got to learn a new dance, re-write a song, attend a junk-yard workshop and finally learn how to play the ukulele.
This week in RE we have been discussing the traditions of Raksha Bandhan. We discussed what we like and dislike about having brothers and sisters and how we look after them.
This week in Maths we have been forming digits to 20 and counting on and back to 100.
This week in karate we have been learning how to do a front punch. We have been working in teams to move forward and count in Japanese.
This week in Geography we have been looking at maps and symbols. We then created our own map using the symbols on the board. We finished by hiding treasure and putting an x on the map to mark where it was.
This week in Maths we have been looking at 2D shapes. We have also been learning about venn and carroll diagrams.
This week in reading we have been reading the 'ZOO'. We have talked about the different animals and our own experiences at the zoo.
This week in karate we have been learning about fitness. We played lots of different games including rounders and tag.
This week in Art we have been following instructions to draw different mini beasts.
This week in Drama we have been acting out a scene from Moana. We used our voices to express different personalities.
We had a very special delivery this week. We all had a present in our trays and it was a very exciting new book. We will be reading Peter Rabbit for the next few weeks and writing lots of adventure stories.
We have had lots of fun this week in Maths. We used the bus to practise counting on and back. We also pretended to be teachers and marked our friend's work. We discussed the traffic marking system and had to decide what colour and number we would give our friend.
This week in karate we have been learning how to play knee-tag. We have been working on movement and speed.
This week after-school clubs started and some of us attended dance. We were learning how to move at different speeds to different types of music. We also had a go at spinning and stopping in time with the music. We finished with side step claps.
We have enjoyed our first week in Year 1. We have had the opportunity to take part in lots of different activities.
This week in topic we went on a mini beast adventure. We researched what mini beasts eat and where they live. Then we went outside to see if we could find any. Finally we used natural materials to make mini beast homes.
This week we joined Joe Wicks in his 'HITT session' we found out how to get and stay fit whilst having lots of fun star jumping and pretending to climb up a rope.
This week we have had the opportunity to take part in lots of different activities as part of Venture Experts.
This week in karate we have been practising how to enter and leave the room showing respect. We have also been practising how to stand at yoi.
We had so much fun in our first gymnastics lesson. We practised how to point our toes and sit up like a gymnast. We also used ribbons to help us stretch and understand movement and rhythm.
This week in French we have been learning how to say hello and goodbye and how to tell Madam Walsh how we're feeling.
This week in English we have been practising writing words using phase 3 sounds. We have been using these sounds to make up alien words.
This week in Maths we have been counting on and back to 30. We have found pairs to 4, 5, 6 and 10 using different objects. We have also practised writing number sentences.
