Year 1 Chestnut Class
Chestnut Class spent a day in the sunshine at Cleethorpes as a reward to achieving the best class attendance since September. They played games, made sandcastle and caught crabs and other sea creatures, and after working up an appetite enjoyed chips and ice creams as well as a picnic on the beach! It was a fantastic day that was well deserved for all of the hard work and effort that the children have put in this year.
Seaside Attendance Reward
Welcome to Chestnut Class! We are 29 five and six year olds who love to learn and make links around the world. We can't wait to dip our toes into our new topic which is all about the seaside.
In our class we have 2 pet guinea pigs, Cookie and Cocoa, who we take turns caring for at weekends and during holidays. We have connected with classes in different countries through our blogs, Key Stage One challenges, as well as through Skype and good old snail mail. We love making friends in different countries and have a huge world map on the wall so we can plot our adventures. Each week we learn French with Madame Blood, so we already know the basics ready for the French residentials we will be able to go on in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6.
We use our class blog to share lots of our work and photos so be sure to check that out too. We are always looking for partner classes so if you like the look of what we do please leave a comment on the blogs and we will be in touch.
A bit about our class
Callum says: "Welcome to Chestnut Class. We try to be the best we can be"
Lilly says: "My teachers are so kind to all of us, they even do crafty stuff!"
Ellie-Mai says: "We do karate every Friday"
Poems on the Playground
To celebrate the sunshine and round off the Literacy work we have been doing on seaside themed acrostics, as a treat we each had an iced lolly outside on the playground. We weren't allowed to just eat it though! We had to think of lots of different adjectives to describe how it smelt, tasted, looked and felt. We then wrote our poems on the playground in chalk.
As part of our seaside topic we have learnt about Punch and Judy as well as writing play scripts. Last week Miss Louca, Mrs Clarke and Miss Harvey worked with us so we had chance to have a go at sewing and each made our own puppets. You can see our creations below:
What is the weather like there?
What do you like to do at school?
Do you have any class pets?
As well as asking questions, we also had to answer the questions they asked us. Eventually we managed to guess: The class was in America! We didn't get much chance to talk to them about exactly which part of the US it was, because of the time difference they had just started school and we were getting ready to go home, but Mrs Mercer told us afterwards that they were in Kansas! It was great to connect with a different class, country and continent - at Norbridge we love to go global!

In Chestnut Class we are proud to have the best attendance of the whole school! We are currently at 98% which are thrilled about, and we are still making every day count by doing our best and coming to school. We are working hard to try to win a trip to the seaside in July, which is the prize for the best class attendance over the whole school year. We would love to win as it would fit in perfectly with our Summer term Seaside topic, so fingers crossed!
