Talk for Writing

This week we are reading and revising the text The Cobbler of Krakow and Smok the Dragon. We have been working hard to learn the actions from our story map, later this week we will be using this text to write our own monster story.

Surviving in the Stone Age

This term we have stepped back into the Stone Age. In History we have been looking at how Stone Age people survived. We investigated how they hunted for food and how they used different parts of animals to make clothes, jewellery and quilts to stay warm. We got to visit Creswell Crags and explore different rocks and have a go at hunting woolly mammoths with spears. We also had the opportunity to go inside the caves and see how dark it was without light. In English we have used all this information to write survival guides and followed instructions to make Stone Age shoes. In art we have been using different pencils and chalk to create our own cave drawings and created pots from clay. This week we have chatted about mental health and the different emotions we might feel. We have discussed different activities we can try when we feel overwhelmed such as meditating, going for a walk, looking at the clouds and watching something that makes you laugh.  Overall, we have had a fantastic term and created lots of great pieces of work.

All about me

This week in news we have been chatting about each other's interests and sharing news about what we have been doing at home.

Fantastic effort in school and at home

This week we have been researching more about the Stone Age. We looked at key facts around the stone age and then had a go at some cave drawings. We spoke about the meaning behind cave drawings.

The children in Merlin Class have also worked hard this week on their homework and created some fantastic skeletons and pattern projects.

Stepping into the Stone Age

We have had a great first week back in Merlin Class. The children have settled in and are showing positive attitudes and behaviour.

We have started our focus book 'The Stone Age Boy' and looked at different jobs cavemen had to complete. We have also practiced cave art and discussed what we already know about the Stone Age.

This week the children have started swimming lessons, they are really enjoying learning new skills in the pool. They have also started PE and Karate lessons, building on the skills from last year.

In Maths, children are revising partitioning and multiplication,

We have also voted for our school councillors.

Well done on a great first week Merlins!
