Autumn Term

Autumn Term 

 

We have lots of exciting activities planned for the Autumn Term in Foundation Stage 2. We can't wait for children to begin the next stage of their learning journey with us. 

 

Autumn Term 1 - Our topic will be 'Who are we?' In this topic, we will be looking at our skills and our families. We will be exploring our new classroom and doing lots of learning outdoors. We will also look at places that are important to us and local places of importance. We will also be looking closely at woodland environments and animals that live there.

 

Autumn Term 2 -  Our topic will be 'Would I rather live somewhere hot or cold?' In this topic, we will be learning about hot and cold places in the world and animals that live in these places. We will learn about the different seasons in the UK and observe changes in our own environment.

Our Favourite Season

 

In Literacy today, we thought about our favourite season and shared why we like that season. Have a look at some of our super ideas below:

Nadia – I like spring because it is colourful.

Bayley – I like summer because I like playing football when it is hot.

Blake – I like winter because I like to play in the snow.

Anna – I like summer because I like to go on water slides in the sunshine.

Louis – I like autumn because I hide in the leaves.

Matthew W – I like autumn because I can jump in the leaves.

Cezary – I like spring because of the rainbows.

Seb – I like winter because I like to jump in the snow.

Noah – I like winter because Santa comes.

Amelia – I like to jump in the snow in winter.

Daisy – I like winter because the leaves fall off the trees.

Jack – Winter is my favourite time.

Freya – I like Christmas because I like opening presents and seeing Father Christmas.

Rainbow Fish

 

As part of our learning about hot places and the seaside, we looked at the story of Rainbow Fish. We then had an active learning session focused on Rainbow Fish where we made friendship bracelets, used play dough to create our own Rainbow Fish, created fish collages and weaved our own paper fish. Commotion In The Ocean

 

As part of our learning about hot places and the seaside, we looked at the story Commotion in the Ocean. We then enjoyed playing with the ocean scene small world and making our own jelly fish using paper plates. See pictures of some of our creations below:

Learning About The Desert

 

As part of our learning about the desert, we enjoyed learning about different animals that live in the desert. We created our own lion pictures using paper and paper plates, painted desert silhouettes and played desert animals snap. See pictures of us learning about desert animals below:

Outdoor Learning

 

We love exploring our outdoor area in Foundation Stage 2. We enjoy playing with our friends, riding the bikes, creating pictures, using the chalks on the floor and exploring small world activities. See pictures of some of our outdoor learning below:

Children In Need

 

We celebrated Children in Need in class. We learnt about Pudsey and created our own Pudsey themed creations. See pictures of our creations below:

Autumn Leaves

Fun Outdoors

Remembrance Day Poppies

Literacy: Protecting Our Woodlands

 

Today in Literacy, we discussed the following questions linked to our topic of 'Into The Woods':

When you go into the woods, should you pick the plants and flowers that grow there?

If you saw a spider or a worm in the woods, what would you do?

What do you think has happened to the trees?

Where would all the animals live if there were no trees?

Why is there rubbish in the woods?

Do you think it is nice for the plants and the forest creatures to have all that rubbish on their floor?

If you saw rubbish in the forest, what could you do to help to look after the environment?

Maths: Grouping Objects

 

Today we have been learning about different ways that objects can be grouped. We tried grouping objects using different criteria. See pictures of our learning below: 

Maths: Number

 

In Maths, we have been working really hard to develop our number knowledge. Today, we have worked on our number formation and being able to count groups of objects. 

Literacy: Home Creations

 

Today in Literacy we designed our own houses. We thought about how to make a home more exciting by adding swimming pools, spas, zoos and theme parks. We created them using lots of different resources and described our creations to our friends. See our different creations below:

Maths: Number Recognition

 

Today in Maths, we challenged our friends to a number game. We had to see who could recognise the number on the board and fill their basket the quickest. See pictures of us playing below:

Physical Education: Yoga

 

Today we have taken part in some Yoga activities. We learnt about different Yoga moves and how we can use Yoga to keep fit, practise our balance and relax our minds. See pictures of us trying different Yoga activities below:

Imagination and Creation

Maths: Making 5

Literacy: Step into the woods...

 

Today in Literacy, we pretended our outside area was the deep, dark woods. We had to hide from tree monsters and foxes and escape the evil rabbit. We also made up a song to walk across the magical path.

This week in art we have been discussing what our family home looks like. We then had a go at drawing our home following instructions from Mr Slaney. 

Literacy: Dream Summer 

 

This week in Literacy, we have been thinking about all the things we missed out on this summer due to the pandemic. We thought about what we would do if we could have a 'dream summer'.
