Autumn 2

Week 1

This week the children have started to read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, we have been predicting what may happen from the front cover. Explored the story's setting and what it may have been like to be a child evacuated during World War II. The children also took part in a hot seating drama activity where they posed as one of the four children in the story, whilst the class asked the character questions.

Week 2

In English we have looked at expanded nouns and smilies. We have been working  on our setting description of Lucy entering the wardrobe using expanded nouns and smilies to make our writing more descriptive. We have debated whether or not children should have been evacuated in the war and our reasons for and against this. We are continuing to enjoy the live teaching session with Pie Corbett and Deputy Mitchell.

Week 3

In English this week the children have been writing an alternative story setting plan as if they were Lucy entering the wardrobe into Narnia. The children have written their alternative story setting as an independent write. We also enjoyed a live webinar with author and illustrator Jeff Kinney- Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Week 4

The children have continued to enjoy the story of Narnia and have been learning about diary entries and what these are. How they can write a diary entry and what they might want to include in one.

Week 5

The children have continued to work hard on our diary entries and this week wrote an entry as the character Lucy when she stepped inside the wardrobe. The children also took part in a hot seat activity where they questioned the white witch and what she was going to do next in the story.

Week 6

Continuing our work on The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe the children have learnt about non chronological reports and how to use sub headings and facts in their writing. The children planned a non chronological report about The lion, the witch and the wardrobe.

Week 7

The children stepped into the wardrobe in Year 3s Blogathon, dressed as characters from the book. Our blog entries can be found in the Hummingbird class blog page. Also as well as blogging  out diary entries we did a non chronological report for The lion, the witch and the wardrobe using the plans from last week. We ended our learning by watching the feature length movie Narnia.
