Autumn Term 2 - Where will your journeys take you?
English: Our focus text will be The Everywhere Bear by Julia Donaldson. Children will use this text and supporting texts such as Journey By Aaron Becker to write for different purposes. They will begin to use their own ideas and imagination when writing letters from explorers. They will also begin to think about non chronological reports linked to significant people and explorers. Children will recap all sounds learnt so far within Phases 2, 3 and 5. They will then begin to extend their knowledge, learning alternative ways of writing sounds that they already know. Children will also be encouraged to use their phonic knowledge independently within their writing and when reading.
Children will focus on four key themes within the Autumn Term. These are; Place value within 10, place value within 20, addition and subtraction within 10 and a wider knowledge of shapes and their properties.
Children will learn about seasonal changes. They will take part in activities observing and describing weather and patterns. They will also use their science based knowledge to gather and record data linked to weather and seasons.
Children will learn about significant individuals from the past. They will focus their learning around explorers, locating famous journeys and expeditions from history.
Children will learn more about their world. They will begin to think about travellers and explorers and the places visited by these individuals. They will also identify the physical and human changes within the areas of focus journeys.
Our focus will be health and wellbeing. Children will learn more about how to look after their own health and wellbeing as well as thinking about the ways that we can discuss feelings.
Children will take part in activities which are focussed on teamwork. They will also think about wider school events such as Remembrance.
Children will discuss gifts and giving. They will begin to think about messages at Christmas and consider reasons why Christmas matters to Christians.
Children will focus on illustrations and will have a wider knowledge of colour including water colour. We are planning a DT day in conjunction with The Harley Gallery to enable children to design and make their own moving pictures.
Children will begin to use their musical skills when thinking about composers. They will work as a team/group to create and perform music.
Children will focus on invasion games. They will develop their skills wider when thinking about games, rules and tactics.
