Autumn Term

Phonics: Children will recap learning from previous phases (phases 2 and 3). They will play games, sing songs and use their phonics in everyday actvities as well as extending their knowledge and learning new sounds within phase 5. Children will also be encouraged to use their phonic knowledge independently within their writing and when reading.  

 

Maths: Children will focus on four key themes within the Autumn Term. These are; Place value within 10, place value within 20, addition and subtraction within 10 and a wider knowledge of shapes and their properties. 

 

Science: Children will learn about animals including humans. They will take part in activities enabling them to name and describe a variety of common animals as well as taking part in experiments to enable them to gather and record information. 

 

History: Children will learn about changes within living memory. They will complete family trees and think about significant events in their lives and the lives of their family. 

 

Geography: Children will learn more about their local area and the environment around them. They will take part in activities learning more about their town and think about how the area has changed. Children will use different applications such as Google Earth to look at the area and find areas out of their town.

 

PSHE: Our focus will be health and wellbeing. Children will learn more about how to look after their own health and wellbeing as well as thinking about the ways that we can discuss feelings. 

 

SMSC: Children will take part in activities which set goal for the coming school year. They will be able to think about the things that make a positive learner and develop on these skills. 

 

Religious Education: Children will discuss friendships and think about the ways that they can be kind friends. They will focus separately on topics within Christianity and Buddhism. 

 

Art and Design: Children will focus on the artist Andy Warhol, thinking about the history of the artist and looking at features of his work. Children will then begin to create their own Warhol inspired pop art in the style of the artist. 

 

Music: Children will begin to use their voices expressively and creatively, singing a variety of songs.

 

Computing: Children will learn to be safe when online and think about ways that they can help themselves to stay safe. Children will also have experience of using modern technology to retrieve information for multiple purposes.

 

French: Children will build on existing skills within their spoken French language. They will take part in activities using new greetings and responses and will also begin to take part in basic conversations.  

 

Physical Education: Children will focus on fundamental skills within their P.E sessions. They will begin to experiment with throwing and catching as well as developing their existing skills when taking part in sports games.
