Curriculum

Spring Term

During the Spring Term, our Topic in History will be the Ancient Egyptians. We will be using artefacts to investigate what life was like in Ancient Egypt and what the Ancient Egyptians believed.

In DT, we will be making Shadoofs and in Art will continue with Mr Slaney. They will make Egyptian masks.

In Science, we will study Animals including Humans. We will learn about Teeth and the Digestive System as well as mummifying a tomato. We will then look at Electricity which will involve designing a torch based on what we have learnt about circuits. We will also take part on a renewable energy project called Moja Island.

Our class books will include The Lost Words from which we will write Acrostic Poems and Kensuke's Kingdom. We will also write a non-chronological report about what we have learnt about Ancient Egypt.

Finally, in Computing we will be practising our word processing skills and in PE the children will learn how to play Hockey.

Autumn Term

During the Autumn Term our topic is Europe where we will be learning all about the human and physical features of its countries and capitals. In Art, we will be learning about famous French artists, art and architecture and developing our basic drawing and painting skills. During DT, we will be designing and creating menus as well as preparing an afternoon tea. Our Science topic is Living Things and their Habitats with a focus on Russian Biomes. We will be designing zoos, looking at the geography of Russia, its biomes and habitats and learning about endangered species and how to protect them.

In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction and measurement and most importantly rocking out on Times Table Rock Stars in preparation for the test next year.

For English, we have begun the term by writing character and setting descriptions based on the books Black Dog and Greenling by Levi Pinfold. We will be developing our reading skills through analysing our class text: Iron Man.

Karate and Art lessons will continue with Mr Slaney on a Tuesday where children will be working towards earning their new belts. Also on Tuesday the children will be taking part in PE with Mr Scott. The first term will be focused on fundamental PE skills.

Music lessons will continue on Fridays with Mr Bellingham where children will have the opportunity to play a variety of instruments including guitar and keyboard.

Finally, on a Tuesday, the children will have the opportunity to take part in Venture Experts sessions ranging from Coding to Musical Theatre, Arts and Crafts, STEM and Radio and Broadcasting to Sports and Global Citizenship.
