English
Autumn 2
This half term we are reading the story: Stubby - A true story of Friendship.
Week 1
We made predictions about what we thought the story would be about using the front cover.
We then had our first read through of the story and thought about the words that could be used to describe the characters.
Week 2
This week we have focused upon retelling the story. We created our own text maps, ordered pictures from the story and then used drama to tell the story.
Week 1:
This week we have stepped into the forest in our immersive environment and we are using the traditional story of Little Red Riding Hood to help us retell a narrative.
This week, we have retold the story using characters and whilst doing this thought about what is being said throughout the story. We have also sequenced the story using story maps.
Week 2
This week we have continued our work with the focus text Little Red Riding Hood.
We have used language for description and have started to recreate our own narratives.
Week 3
This week we have been really lucky and have enjoyed a visit from an author. We really enjoyed listening to and joining in with his poems.
Week 4 & 5:
We really enjoyed reading the story 'The Hodgeheg' by Dick King Smith.
In English we are now working hard to create our own non chronological reports about hedgehogs.
We have looked at the features of this style of writing; Headings, Sub Headings, Topic Sentences, Fact Boxes and Images.
We have also talked about the use of interesting vocabulary to make our work more exciting for the reader. We are trying to use sentence openers to make our sentences even better!
