English

Spring Term 2

Week 1&2

These past two weeks we have been learning about non-chronological reports. We have been exploring the different features of a non-chronological report and thinking what they might be used for. We then had a go at writing out own non-chronological all about our school, then about our history topic the Ancient Egyptians.

Week 3&4

In English we have been exploring fairytales and thinking about the different features of a fairytale. We then thought of the story of Cinderella. We first summarised the story, ordered it, then had a go at acting it out.

Week 5&6

In English, we have finished reading the story of The Egyptian Cinderella. We then thought about how we can make the story our own and rewrote our own versions of the story. Whilst writing, we though about the features of a fairytale and insured we included fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and similes.

Spring Term 1

Week 1 & 2

In English we have been reading the Willow Pattern Story. This book explores the story of the willow pattern which is now found on pottery. We have explored the different characters in the story and we have also been using expanded noun phrases to describe the setting. We have learnt new words which are found in the book such as pagoda, mandarin, peonies, camellias; and we have also looked more into the weeping willow tree.

Week 3 & 4

In English, we have been extending our sentences using fronted adverbials and similes. We have thought about the Willow Pattern setting and have used exciting adjectives to describe it.

Week 5&6

In English, we have been looking at instructions and what makes good instructions. We then wrote out own instructions on how to make a willow pattern plate.
