English
Summer 1
Week 1, 2 and 3
In English the children are working hard on writing and developing setting descriptions by including and improving their writing. We have been trying to use expanded nouns, prepositional phrases, verbs, fronted adverbials to make grab our readers attentions and wanting more of the story. We are also reading the Tunnel and have been making predictions about the story.
In SPaG we have been learning about inverted commas in direct speech, how to use a subordinate clause in a subordinate conjunction and how we can incorporate these things into our writing.
Week 4,5 and 6
The children have created their own stories about the tunnel with a beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. We made these stories into books with a pop out page. We have also been looking at syllables in words and how we can clap out the sounds. We have then looked at Haiku poems and the rules you need to remember to write them. The children have then written their own Haiku poems.
In SPaG we have been looking at prefixes and how we use them for different words. We have also been exploring the book The Street Beneath My Feet and looking at the meaning of the vocabulary and how to retrieve information from the text to answer key questions.
