Extra Curricular Activities

Relaxation Club

Some children in Year 6 chose to stay behind after school to learn about relaxation techniques and how they can help us lead happy and healthy lives.

Week Eight

This week in Relaxation Club, we thought about positive affirmations. We wrote our own personal positive affirmations about ourselves and shared them with each other. We then tried some breathing exercises.

Week Seven

This week, we thought about how we feel when we are down. We then made positive comments on posy-it-notes about each other and gave them to each other. We will save our positive comments for a 'blue day'.

Week Six

This week, we thought about the things we appreciate, we thought of things like

  • Sunlight
  • Air
  • Housing
  • Water
  • Friends and Family
  • Food

We then ate a chocolate bar mindfully, we appreciated the texture, the taste and the smell of the chocolate.

After this we decided that we would dance like nobody is watching as this can make us feel good!

Week Five

This week, we started by making a daily diary of our day, we thought about 3 things that we have achieved today, something we have achieved today and something we appreciate. We then made some hot chocolate and tried to drink mindfully. After this we decided to ourselves a goal to be achieved by Christmas this year, some examples of the children's goals:

  • To try to be more calm at home
  • To practise a dancing for the Christmas tree lighting
  • To complete all his Dare homework and remember his Dare workbook

Week Four

This week we decided to start the club with a walk. We walked around the field then we sat and observed nature, we thought about what we could hear, see, smell, taste and feel, we thought about how lucky we are to be able to enjoy the nature around us. After this, we went inside and created our own journals that we are going to use to note down how we are feeling, our worries and thoughts and we might use them as a daily diary.

Week Three

This week we talked about how we have been using what we have learned, we have done some meditation around our feelings, we completed a visualisation activity (one of us fell asleep!). We finished our session with creating some emotions wheels, these are to use to help us communicate how we feel, the children will finish off colouring them next week.

Week Two

This week we talked about positive affirmations and meditation, we talked about making time for being in the present moment and how this can then help us day-to-day. We meditated then thought about all the ways we be kind to our minds. After this we chose to do some yoga again as we really enjoyed it last week.

Here are some photographs of the children being in the present moment.

Week One

This week we thought about why we might use relaxation techniques and how this could help us this year. We chose to do a more grown up Yoga then we listened to some calming music and completed some mindfulness colouring sheets.

Young Voices

This year sees a return of the much loved Young Voice club at Norbridge. A group of our year 6 children will attend after school sessions of singing and performing in preparation for our attendance at the Young Voices concert in January.

Language Leaders

A group of year 6 children expressed their interest in becoming language leaders this year which means they will be assisting and encouraged children in all younger years to take part in extra curricular activities set by Madam Walsh.

Norbridge Engineers

This year, children have been given the chance to apply to Mr Huthart to become a Norbridge Engineer. They will work together with Mr North to create a go kart that will be fully functioning and usable. Eight children will learn about the tools and equipment needed as well how to assemble the piece to create a final product.

Their first week consisted of a safety introduction to different tools and equipment before starting to assemble the first part of the go kart.
