Spring Term 2
Week 1 and 2
The children have been learning by artwork by artist Kimmy Cantrell. In lesson 1 the children created a fact file about Kimmy. In week 2 the children made collaged faces using Kimmy's masks to create their own piece of artwork.
The children have started to fine out and explore the ancient Egyptians.
The children have continued the topic of plants and in week 1 and 2 have been learning about photosynthesis. How this works and how the plant makes their own food.
In RE the children have started to learn about Hinduism. We have focused on karma and reincarnation. The children drew a life cycle for the Hindu religion.
The children have continued to learn about rivers and the water cycle. They took part in an experiment about precipitation, evaporation and condensation.
Week 3 and 4
The children have been learning about capillary action in plants. We did an experiment using food colouring and roses to show how plants transport water around the plant.
We have been learning about the different Hindu gods and what we would pray to each god for. The children have also been learning about mosques and how muslims worship in these in preparation for our visit to a mosque in a couple of weeks.
We have continued to find out about artist Kimmy Cantrell, the children have experimented using shapes and colours from Kimmy's work. They have learnt about different masks and why masks may be worn and when. The children have then designed their own masks inspired by the Egyptians and Kimmy Cantrell.
The children made an ancient Egyptian artefact in clay. We also went to Weston Park Museum to find out more about the Egyptians, we learnt about mummification and different artefacts that the Egyptians had.
The children took part in a DT Day about food and nutrition. We learnt about what foods we need to eat to stay healthy, which food groups they belong to. We discussed what a salad is and then tried some different items of salad. The children then designed, made and planted their own edible gardens for family and friends.
Week 5 and 6
In Science the children drew the life cycle of a plant that included germination, photosynthesis and seed dispersal. We then finished the topic with a low stakes quiz.
After designing our masks inspired by Kimmy Cantrell the children made their designs in clay and then used painting techniques to give them colour.
The children took part in an Egyptian Blog-a-thon day where they made Egyptian collars, mummified tomatoes and tried Egyptian food. They then blogged all about the Egyptians.
In RE the children continued to learn about Islam and wrote their names in Arabic. They also had the fantastic opportunity to visit a mosque where the children explored the building, met the Imman and learnt how to pray. We finished off the topic with a low stakes quiz.
The children took part in a computing day where we learned how to create power point slides, add hyperlinks, animations, images and videos. The children did this on the theme of Cinderella.
