Foundation Subjects

Summer 1

 

Week 1, 2 and 3 

 

Art  

The children have been learning all about the street artist Banksy, we have been exploring the key differences between graffiti and street art, why people graffiti and how street art can raise awareness about key issues that are going on in the world. The children have created their own tags and designed their own piece of street art as well as stencilling like Banksy! 

 

Computing

The children have been learning all about the internet and how to use it effectively to research a certain topic. They have key word searches, bookmarks and favourites and used these methods to research rainforests.  

 

Science

The children have started their new topic on rocks, we have looked at different types of rocks and their characteristics and how they form to make these types of rocks.This led us to look at fossils and how fossilisation happens.  We have also learnt about Mary Anning and how she became one of the only female fossil hunter of her time. 

 

RE

In RE the children have started to learn about Muslim celebrations such as Eid. We have made gift boxes and tried some different types of food that may be eaten at these celebrations. 

 

Geography 

The children have started their new topic about rainforests and where they are located in the world. 

 

PSHE 

The children have been learning how to stay safe online, when to share images and how to stay safe in chatrooms and games. 

Week 4, 5 and 6 

 

Art  

The children have continued to look at street artist Banksy. They have experimented with the different techniques of stencilling and spray painting. The children have designed and made their own pieces of street art that will displayed outside of the classroom as a whole class artwork. 

 

Computing

The children have been learning all about the internet and how to use it effectively to research a certain topic. They have learnt how to present the research in powerpoint and if all the information on the internet is real. We have looked at the rainforest tree octopus and explored the website to see if we think it is real or fake! 

 

Science

The children have continued our topic on rocks and fossils. We have looked closely at how soil is formed and how the different layers are important. 

 

RE

In RE the children have been learning about the Hindu festivals of Diwali and Holi. We have acted out the story of Rama and Sita and learnt what the colours in Diwali mean. The children used colour wheels to say what the colours mean to them. 

 

Geography 

The children have started their new topic about rainforests and where they are located in the world. 

 

PSHE 

The children have been learning how to stay safe online, we have looked at the dangers of meeting strangers from the internet. We also revised British Values and why these are important in our society.
