Week 1 and 2
The children have started to learn about the body and what keeps us healthy. We have also learnt about the bones in our bodies and what they do and their scientific names.
The children have explored making their own cave drawings using symbols that the stone age people would have used. Looked at contemporary artists who use cave drawings as inspiration and experimented making different marks with a variety of materials.
We have started our Stone Age topic by learning about the timeline of the stone age people and how they may have lived during that time and how it is different to how we live now.
The focus has been the feelings of grief and why we might feel this and different things we can do to support ourselves and others during this time. The children thought about memory boxes and who they make one of these for.
The children have been busy learning and practicing the Harvest Festival song which they performed in front of their family and friends in a special assembly.
In computing the children have been introduced to computer systems and how they work.
Week 3 and 4
The children have been learning about different types of skeletons such as endo, exo and hydrostastic. They sorted different animals into these groups to classify them. We then worked together to make a model of a moving hand and then studied how the hand moves more closely.
The children have looked at contemporary sculpture as inspiration to design and make their own stone age sculpture.
We have been learning about what was new in the Stone Age and the children have put together a survival guide to help us if we lived during this time. The children have then created a map of a settlement and the environment surrounding it,
The focus has been inappropriate touch in these lessons thinking about when it is okay and when it is not okay. The children signed an anti bullying oath and we talked about being kind to everyone in school.
The children have designed there own computer system that has an output, and we have also looked at other digital types of equipment.
