WB 7.12.20 - Christmas Jumper and Dinner Day
This week, we had our annual Christmas Jumper and Dinner Day. A big thank you to our dinner staff for serving us a fabulous Christmas feast.
WB 7.12.20 - DARE
We have been working extremely hard to prepare for our DARE graduation throughout this week. We are looking forward to filming our graduation and we will be showcasing all our hard work in a special viewing next week with DARE Officer Neil!

This week, we have been rehearsing for our DARE graduation. We have been practising drama sketches ready to be filmed next week!
WB 30.11.20 - Paper Chain Challenge
On Monday, our classroom was full of festive competitiveness for the annual Year 6 Paper Chain Challenge. The class were divided into four groups and demonstrated fantastic teamwork whilst busily sticking the paper chains together. Well done to Team 4, who were the overall winners!


WB 23.11.20 - DARE
In our penultimate DARE session this week, we began preparing for our DARE report. We shared all of the things we have learned and discussed over the last 9 weeks. Take a look at some of the things we have remembered below:

Over the last two weeks, we’ve been learning about The Holocaust & discussing the devastation caused by the Nazi regime. We remembered the millions of Jewish people who were killed & thought about what we can learn from history. We created posters of key values we should follow. In our RE lesson, we began to make interpretations by looking at a range of images. We then shared our interpretations with our partner to see whether or not they shared the same thoughts. Take a look at some pictures from our lesson below:



WB 16.11.20 - Science
This week in science, we have been learning how to plan a fair and accurate investigation. Next week, we will be carrying out our investigation. In our French lesson this week, we learnt the names for the different rooms in our homes. Can you name any of these rooms?
WB 9.11.20 - SMSC
This Wednesday was Remembrance Day. We watched BBC News and had two minutes silence to remember the fallen, and those who are still fighting. We then created some poppies to display in our Anderson Shelter.

This week, we received a letter offering us wartime job positions. We then researched our roles for information on uniforms, pay, work conditions and key duties. We then had to decide whether we would like this job role or not.




WB 2.11.20 - Computing
In computing this week, we have been learning about ‘media stereotyping’ by looking at how the media plays a powerful role in shaping ideas about girls and boys.


WB 2.11.20 - Science
In science this week, we have started our new topic of electricity. We labelled a circuit diagram with the names and symbols of the different components.

This week, we have sketched some key figures from World War II.




WB 2.11.20 - Design Technology Day
On Monday, we completed a DT project to create our own Anderson Shelters completed with a garden and other additional features. We listened to reasons why Anderson Shelters were important during the air raids and thought about why a curved structure is stronger. We designed our own Anderson Shelters and listed the materials we would need to use. Finally, we worked together in small groups to build an Anderson Shelter, complete with gardens, washing lines and vegetable patches.
WB 12.10.20 - Halloween Dress-Up Day
A HUGE thank you to all the children who collected sponsorship money. We have raised a massive £277 for our Year 6 events. We enjoyed completing our Spooky Sprint and watching a Halloween film in the afternoon.
WB 12.10.20 - DARE
This afternoon, we have been learning important skills on how to report an incident by using the 5 W's - Who, What, Where, When and Why.
WB 12.10.20 - History
This afternoon, as part of our WWII topic, we enjoyed watching the film, 'Goodnight Mr Tom'. We tasted some homemade honey cake and enjoyed some traditional 1940's style sweets.

WB 12.10.20 - RE
In our RE lesson this week, we talked about how a Jewish family kitchen works - they have two separate areas: one for meat and one for milk. We discovered that all foods are prepared separately and they described 'clean food' as Kosher. We tasted some traditional, Jewish foods that would be offered on the Seder plate during Passover. We also spoke about the life of a Jewish child and how their lives would differ from ours.

In our RE lesson, we have been learning how the Jewish people celebrate passover. We created our own seder plate.




WB 5.10.20 - PSHE
This week, we discussed how human rights have changed through the decades. We thought how human rights were neglected in some scenarios, e.g. The Holocaust, and suggested how things could have been better.
WB 5.10.20 - History
In our history lesson, we learnt how people's diets were different during World War Two. We created some weekly menus after talking about some traditional wartime recipes.




WB 5.10.20 - Computing
This week, we designed a poster on how to identify a secure website and why this is important to know before entering personal information.




WB 28.9.20 - DARE
This week, the DARE Officer talked to us about the different types of pressure we may experience. Then, we discussed the facts and consequences of drugs that may be smoked or inhaled.


WB 28.9.20 - Science
This week, we have been thinking about the question, 'What colour is light?' We made a colour wheel to demonstrate that light is made from the colours of the rainbow.
WB 28.9.20 - History
We have been talking about evacuation this week. We have been thinking about the life of an evacuee and the important things they would have taken with them in their suitcase.



WB 21.9.20 - DARE
In our DARE session this week, we identified different stresses we might come across and discussed how we could deal with these.
WB 21.9.20 - Science
Refraction was the focus of our science lesson this week. We carried out an experiment using water to show how refraction works.




WB 21.9.20 - RE
To continue with our learning about Judaism, we learnt about the different parts of a Synagogue and then labelled a diagram to demonstrate our knowledge.




WB 21.9.20 - History
This week, we learnt about significant events that happened during World War II. We started to understand the devastating effects of The Blitz and wrote setting descriptions to describe this. You can read some of our writing at: toucan2020.norbridgeblogs.net
WB 14.9.20 - Art
After an energetic PE lesson of relay races, we enjoyed the chance to wind down by sketching, colouring or painting poppies. We followed step by step instructions to draw the outline and then add detail and colour.




WB 14.9.20 - DARE
This week we had our first DARE session with DARE Officer Neil Scully. We discussed what DARE stands for: Drug Abuse Resistance Education. We then identified illegal and legal drugs including alcohol, tobacco, solvents and prescription drugs and discussed the impact of these.

In our RE lesson this week, we have been learning about the main beliefs of Judaism - the story of Moses and The Ten Commandments.




WB 14.9.20 - World War II Timeline
In our history lesson this week, we played 'Dough Wars'. Using the dough, we followed a timeline of events demonstrating which countries were invaded and which ones were invading.




WB 7.9.20 - PE
In our session with Mr Scott this week, we learnt a militrary-style drill in line with our World War II theme.


WB 7.9.20 - Science
For our science learning this week, we started our unit of work on light! We started our learning by understanding how we see things.




WB 7.9.20 - PSHE
This week, we discussed the importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and we compared these to the rights of a child.




WB 7.9.20 - History
In our history lesson this week, we have been learning about how World War II began. We listened to the radio broadcast which broke the news that Britain was at war with Germany. We then located the Allies and Axis Powers on a world map.

In our first French lesson of the year, we learnt about the Tour de France.
WB 1.9.20 - Music
We were so happy to have our first music lesson of the year. We have been learning how to play Clocks by Coldplay on the ukulele.
WB 1.9.20 - Target Setting
We have worked with Mrs Pressley to set ourselves a target for the academic year. We have thought carefully about what we want to achieve and how we are going to achieve it.
