Maths

At Norbridge Academy, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work in Foundation Stage 2, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The purpose of White Rose Maths is to:

  • Enable children to build a deep understanding, confidence and competence in maths.
  • Support learning and progress.
  • Create resilient mathematicians who become independent and reflective thinkers.
  • Build skills and strategies that can be applied across different subjects.

By planning maths lessons using White Rose Maths, we aim for a more direct approach to teaching, where children access a range of both practical and written activities to support and extend their learning across the different areas. At Norbridge Academy, we aim to teach children with concrete, pictorial and written/abstract examples of mathematical strategies.

You can read more about White Maths Rose here: https://whiterosemaths.com/

In Foundation Stage 1, we follow the guidance published by Development Matters. Children secure their understanding of number and mathematical language through practical activities, continuous provision and play. There is a focus on children's individual needs and children's learning is supported and extended through adult-led activities.
