Calculating the perimeter
This week in Maths we have been calculating the perimeter of simple 2-D shapes. We have been discussing the best methods to add numbers together.
Compare and order Lengths
This week in Maths we have been comparing and ordering lengths based on measurements in mm, cm and m. We have also been adding and subtracting lengths given in different units of measurements.
Using different units of measurements
This week in Maths, we have been learning how to measure in mm, cm and m. We have also been learning how to convert between different types of measurements. Some of us used our knowledge on this to help other children.
Answering questions about data
This week in Maths we have been reading and interpreting information in order to answer questions about data. We have been looking at pictograms, tally charts and bar charts and discussing which we prefer. We have also been using data to answer one and two-step problems.
This week we have been answering questions on Money. Firstly, we looked at the value of each coin and what these values represent. We then had a go at converting between pounds and pence. Next, we used this information to add two amounts of money using pictorial representatives. Finally, we used different methods to subtract money.
This week in Maths we have been using part-whole models to answer tricky division questions. We have also been discussing all the different methods we have been using to answer division and multiplication questions and deciding which method we prefer the most.
Problem Solving and Reasoning
This week in Maths we have been using our times table knowledge to solve multiplication and division problems. We have been discussing the easiest methods to use and our favourite methods to work out calculations. We have also been self-assessing and peer-assessing our work. We are working hard to answer times table questions as quickly as we can and we have been doing daily speed tests.
Multiplication and Division
This week in Maths we have been recalling our 3, 4 and 8 times table using songs to help us. We have been using arrays and pictures to help us answer questions on multiplication. We looked at using inequality symbols and compared multiplication sentences. Finally, we had a go at multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number and worked with a partner to check our answers. This week we have also tried lots of challenge questions. We have discussed the different methods we have used with our friends and talked about the most affective method.
