Monday 1st February

English

Read through the document ‘The Workings of the Human Heart’ and recap the key features.

Using the ‘Explanation Margin Planner’ document, read through the key points and think of ideas to add to the planner ready for your lesson tomorrow.

Maths

Read through the PowerPoint ‘Multiply Decimals by Integers’.

Complete the worksheet.

SPaG

Read through the PowerPoint – Recognising Modal Verbs.

Complete the appropriate worksheet.

Reading

Read Chapters 8, 9 & 10 of the Pig Heart Boy, thinking about the main ideas in each chapter.  Then think about the answer to these questions: What was Cameron embarrassed about at the start of Chapter 8? How has the author made Chapter 9 different? What effect does it have?

Geography

Think about the following questions:

  • What is an island?
  • What are the four countries in the UK?

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland includes the island of Great Britain and the north eastern part of the island of Ireland (Northern Ireland) and many smaller islands.

Can you locate some of the main British islands using Google Maps?

Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPtR9wk-7Z4 to learn about the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland. There are about 70 islands in the Orkneys, but only 20 have people living on them.

Record three facts about the Orkney Islands from the video clip.

Choose another island of your choice (anywhere in the world). Compare the Orkney Islands to another island, making a list of similarities and differences. You organise your facts under headings such as:

  • Human characteristics
  • Physical landscape
  • Physical characteristics
  • Weather
