Spring 2: What caused the grea fire of London and its spread?

English
This half term in English, we will be focusing our work on the great fire of London. To do this, we will use our new class focus text, 'Vlad and the Great Fire of London' by Kate Cunningham. Throughout the term, we will be using this text to create diary entries, acrostic poems and recount texts.
Maths
In maths over the next few weeks we will be completing two units of work. We will start off the half term by learning all about 2D and 3D shapes. After this we will examine a length and height.
Science
This term in science, our topic will continue to be based on 'the uses of everyday materials'. Our focus will be based around the great fire of London. To do this we will answer enquiry questions such as who invented the smoke detector? Who invented fire extinguishers and what makes materials fire resistant.
History
In history this term, we will attempt to answer our enquiry question 'what caused the fire of London and why did it spread?' Throughout the half term, we will examine a range of historical sources to determine when, where and how the fire started and what the impact of the fire was on the city of London.
Computing
In computing this term we will be learning all about computer art. Throughout the half term, we will be using computers to replicate a range of well known art forms such as pointillism and cubism.
Art and Design
This term in art, our focus will be 'sparks and flames'. Over the course of the term, we will examine a range of artforms which replicate the effects of fire.
RE
This term in RE we will be examining what Muslims believe about Allah, creation, prophets and divine decree. To do this we will be comapring the Muslim creation story with the two other creation stories that we have already examined this year. We will also examine Muslims' beliefs about Adam, Ibraham and Allah.
PSHE
This half term in PSHE, we will be learning about keeping safe and staying healthy. In our lessons, we will be learning about understanding how to make choices that can keep us safe and to recognise a range of potential dangers.
Spring 1: What is life like in the city?

English:
This half term in English, we will be learning how to write a range of text types such as
non-chronological reports, information texts and explanation texts. To do this we will be using our texts to support our writing such as 'The Story of the London Underground' by David Long and 'Rosie Revere Engineer' by Andrea Beaty.
Maths
In maths over the next few weeks we will be completing two units of work. Our first unit will be based on Multiplication and Division where we will be learning about grouping and sharing objects. We will also be multiplying and dividing numbers by 2, 5 and 10. Out second unit will be based on 'Statistics'. Throughout this unit we will be examining how to read and create our own tally charts, pictograms and block diagrams.
Science
This term in science, our topic will be based on 'the uses of everyday materials'. In our first half term, we will be examining how to describe the characteristics of different materials. We will also be examining what makes certain materials suitable for certain objects but not for others.
Geography
In geography this term, our topic will be 'urban environments'. For the first few weeks of the term, we will be examining the geographical features of London. We will then compare what we know about London to another capital city in the UK and Hong Kong by examining similarities and differences between the three cities.
Computing
In computing this term we will be examining coding. To do this we will learn how to use create our own algorithms using both Turtle Academy and Scratch to provide a set of instructions to move a character in various ways.
Design and Technology
This half term in design and technology, we will be examining mechanisms. We will specifically be investigating how a variety of vehicles move and their functions. By the end of the half term, we will have designed, made and evaluated our own moving vehicles.
RE
This term in RE we will be learning about how and why Jewish and Christian stories are important to their religions. Throughout the half term, we will be learning about the different stories that are outlined in the Bible and the Torah in order to understand the messages that they share with both Christianity and Judaism.
PSHE
This half term in PSHE, we will be learning about keeping safe and staying healthy. In our lessons, we will be learning about who keeps them safe and how they can help to ensure they stay safe, how to tie their shoelaces safely, examine how food helps our bodies to grow and examine why we need to brush our teeth.
