Spring Term 1 Updates

WC 17.01.22

 

English - This week in English we have been focusing on our class text, 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'. We have been looking at the character and using 'high five' sentences to create a character description. We have created descriptive sentences about the tiger, Sophie and her mum and dad.

 

Maths - This week in Maths we have been looking at adding and subtracting within 20. We looked at subtraction that included crossing ten, using related facts to complete number sentences and part whole models, comparing number sentences using the inequality symbol and completed our end of block assessment.

 

Science - This week in Science we have been looked at the organs in the body. We focused on the heart, lungs and brain and thought about the function and importance of these three body parts. 

 

R.E - We were very luck to have a visit from Mark Hardy this week to teach us about one of Jesus' miracles. He talked about the miracle of Jesus Feeding the 5000. We listened to the story and then Mark spoke to use about why this is important to Christians.

English - This week in English we focused on using exciting adjectives, connecting ideas and sentences using 'and' and using basic sentence skills to create a description of the tiger. We shared our best and most exciting adjectives with each other to try and vary our ideas and looked at writing slightly longer and more detailed sentences. We then completed an independent write to showcase out ideas.

 

Maths - This week we finished our block on addition with a lesson on adding by making ten. We created groups of ten using a ten frame so we could count on in tens to make our additions faster. We then moved onto subtraction, firstly without crossing ten and then subtraction with crossing ten. We used a range of pictorial and physical resources to help us such as part- whole models, ten frames and counters.

 

PSHE - We have continued our learning on road safety and this week we have looked at the different types of road crossings. We learnt about zebra, toucan, pelican and puffin crossings and what the differences are between them.
