Spring Term

Spring Term

Spring Term 2 - What tales can a tree tell?

English: Our focus text will be Tree by Patricia Hegarty. Children will use this text and supporting texts such as A First Book of Nature by Nicola Davies and Bees, also by Patricia Hegarty to write for different purposes. These will include: poetry: rhyming texts and an acrostic poem, instructions: how to plant and care for a seed. They will also write a recount - creating a seed diary.

Phonics: Children will recap all sounds learnt so far within Phases 2, 3 and 5. They will then begin to extend their knowledge, learning alternative ways of writing sounds that they already know. They will revisit and consolidate all of their phonics in preparation for the phonics screening check, and will practise reading real and alien words. Children will also be encouraged to use their phonic knowledge independently within their writing and when reading.

Maths: Children will focus on four key themes within the Autumn Term. These are; Place value within 20, numbers to 50, and a wider knowledge of measuring length, height, weight and volume.

Science: Children will learn about seasonal changes. They will take part in activities observing and describing animals and plants in the garden. They will observe the structure of plants and make scientific predictions.

Geography: Wonderful Weather: children will name and locate continents and oceans. Children will learn to describe and use vocabulary including weather, soil and vegetation. Children will learn about sustainability and taking care of the environment. Children will learn about growing and planting and identifying the different plants that grow in different countries and discuss how the weather influences this.

PSHE: Our focus will be health and wellbeing. Children will learn more about how to look after their own health and wellbeing as well as thinking about the ways that we can discuss feelings.
