Big congratulations to this week's Special Mentions superstars and our House Point Champion!
In Art this week, we designed and created our own Andy Warhol inspired layered stencils, ready to print next week!
In English this week, we finished and edited and improved our own adventure stories. To add excitement to our work, we practised using ‘show not tell’ – describing character actions and expressions, rather than stating their feelings.
We really enjoyed our first class visit to the new library this week!
1 more silver band was awarded this week for a super start back to school!
Here are this week's TT Rockstar winners:
We have been making cards for the special mothers in our lives!
Geography - Effects of climate change
Today in Geography we learnt about how climate change affects people all around the world. We discussed how climate change affects: water, homes, food, farmers, fishing and beaches in different countries. Then we learnt about how the floods affect many people in Vietnam. We empathised with the people and then acted out a news report interviewing a Vietnamese person about their experience.
In Science we tested whether different types of chocolate melt at different rates. We discovered that white chocolate changed from a solid into a liquid the quickest!
In Maths we have been revising our fractions knowledge. We took part in a pizza problem solving challenge to discover if any of the Norbridge teachers had any pizza left over!
In English we have been planning our own adventure story using a similar structure to Kensuke's kingdom.
Spring Term 2
Our enquiry question: Could we survive on our own?
Our focus text: 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo
This half term in English, we are learning to write an adventure story and to write an explanation text about the water cycle.
We will be learning about fractions, decimals and area in Maths this half term.
In science, we will be learning about the three different states of matter, including learning about the water cycle.
We are going to be learning about global warming this half term. We will be thinking about how global warming has contributed to a rising sea-level and how we can live more sustainably in the future.
This half term we will be having an RE day, where we will be learning about Buddhism. We will be focusing on Buddhist moral stories and the importance of temples to Buddhists.
We are learning about Pop Art this half term! Pop Art was founded by the artist Andy Warhol, who used screen printing to create his artwork.
Michael has arrived on a desert island and has no clean water to drink. He can't drink the salty sea water because it will make him ill. This half term, we are going to design and create a water bottle with a water filtration system built in so that Michael can have clean water to drink!
