Focus Texts:

English:

In Spring Term 1, we will be writing free-verse war poetry and creating a non-chronological reports about World War I. In Spring Term 2, we will be using the focus text, 'Letters from the Lighthouse' to inspire our own letter writing and to prompt discussion around the question: Was it right to evacuate?

 

Maths:

This term, we will be securing our understanding of number by focusing on: decimals, percentages, algebra and ratio. In addition to this, we will be converting units of measure and calculating the perimeter, area and volume of shapes.

 

Science:

In Spring Term 1, we will be recognising how living things have changed over time and understand how fossils provide information. In Spring Term 2, we will begin to understand how we see things and we will explore why shadows have the same shape as the objects.

 

History and Geography:

In our history lessons, we will be asking historically valid questions such as, 'What was it like during an air raid?' and 'Did men and women contribute equally to WWII?' We will be exploring the effect of war on the local area and discussing the impact of the Holocaust. In our geography lessons, we will be locating countries involved in World War One and Two on a map and discovering how bombing raids during WWII changed landscapes in Britain.

 

SMSC:

'Thinking Positive' and 'Cultural Development' are our two themes for the Spring Term. In Spring Term 1, we will begin to understand the impact of our actions. In Spring Term 2, we will be thinking about what we can learn from others.

 

RE:

In Spring Term 1, we will learn about Buddhism and what sacred Buddhist texts say about God. In Spring Term 2, we will begin to think about what we can learn from great leaders and inspiring examples in today's world.

 

PSHE:

'Relationships' is the theme for our learning this term. We will begin to identify different types of relationships and recognise when a relationship is unhealthy.

 

Art and Design:

In Spring Term 1, we will be completing an observational drawing of the poppies found in Flanders Field. In Spring Term 2, we will be creating a mixed-media landscape piece based on the view from the trenches.

 

Design Technology:

This term, we will be working together to construct an Anderson shelter that could be used by civilians during World War II.

 

Computing:

The focus for our learning this term is 'Computer Science'. We will be using Scratch to develop our own programs.

 

French:

In our weekly lessons with Madame Walsh, we will be learning new vocabulary linked to hobbies and pastimes.

 

PE:

In Spring Term 1 and 2, Mr Scott will teach us how to play volleyball and we will also be learning new dances.
