Spring Term

Vicious Vikings

Picture 1

Our Spring Term topic will be 'Vicious Vikings'. We will be travelling back to the time of the Anglo-Saxons, before learning about the invasion of the Vikings and the battles with the Normans. We will also be developing our geographical skills through our residential trip to Hathersage.

Read below to find out what we will be learning about in the different subject areas:

Geography and History: In our Geography lessons, we will be securing our map-reading skills and participating in stream studies. We will explore the outdoors through orienteering courses and participate in fieldwork studies. Our History lessons will focus on the Viking era.

Art and Design Technology: As part of our creative learning this term, we will be creating woodland pictures and replicating the sounds of the stream. We will demonstrate Viking battle re-enactments and creating shields and Viking longboats.

R.E: For our R.E lessons, we will be learning about the Islamic faith and the meaning behind their stories.

Computing: During the Spring Term, we will develop our coding skills and practise these skills using new coding applications and websites.

Science: 'Living Things and their Habitats' and 'Animals (Including Humans)' are the two themes for our science lessons. We will describe the differences in life cycles and recognise the changes as humans develop to old age.

Music: During the Spring Term, we will be continuing to learn how to play a range of instruments as part of a class band with Mr Bellingham.

P.E: We will continue to have our weekly PE sessions with Mr Scott where we will be developing the skills needed to play lacrosse and tennis. We will also be continuing with our weekly swimming session, as well as a weekly Karate session with Sensei Slaney.

French: Madame Walsh will continue to teach our weekly French lesson. We will be developing new vocabulary and skills during this time.

Venture Experts: This term, we will continue with our Venture Experts sessions on a Tuesday afternoon. During this time, we participate in a range of activities with different teachers. We will also be showcasing our learning to the school community.
