Summer

Summer Term

Enquiry Questions:

Does everybody have the same equal opportunities in terms of how they live?

Should absolute freedom be possible?

English:

In Summer Term 1, we will be using the focus text, 'Overheard in a Tower Block' to inspire our free-verse poetry and to help us write a balanced argument linked to our first enquiry question. In Summer Term 2, we will use the text published by Amnesty International to write contrasting diary entries.

Maths:

This term, we will recognise properties of shapes and develop our understanding of statistics. We will also secure our problem solving and reasoning skills in preparation for secondary school.

Science - Evolution and Inheritance and Scientists and Inventors:

In Summer Term 1, we will be recognising how living things have changed over time and understand how fossils provide information. In Summer Term 2, we will be researching the work of some famous scientists and inventors, including: Stephen Hawking, Alexander Fleming and Steve Jobs.

History:

During Summer Term 1, we will be finding out what life was like during the Elizabethan ear and learning about the impact of the Spanish Armada.

Geography:

In Summer Term 2, we will learn how trading nations are interdependent and identify the global importance of natural resources.

SMSC:

'Our World' and 'Britain' are our two themes for the Summer Term. In Summer Term 1, we will host a Fairtrade Café. In Summer Term 2, we will be thinking about democracy and the rule of law.

RE:

Throughout the Summer Term, we will continue our learning about secular beliefs. We will develop our understanding of evolution and Darwinism.

PSHE:

Design Technology:

This term, we will be cooking a three-course meal for an Elizabethan banquet.

Music:

In preparation for our Leavers' Assembly, we will discuss our memories of Norbridge Academy and discuss how music can be used to share a message. Our music lessons will focus on our summer production. We will perform songs, respond to timings and play a variety of instruments.
