Summer Term

Summer Term

We have lots of exciting activities planned for the Summer Term in Foundation Stage 2.

Summer Term 1 - Our topic will be 'What can we learn from others?' In this topic, we will be learning about different places around the World and the people that live there. We will look at different celebrations that people hold and different beliefs. We will also be learning about how we are all different and unique.

Summer Term 2 - Our topic will be 'What is the last word you want to hear when you are swimming in the sea?' In this topic, we will learn all about the Seaside. We will learn about what things we might find at the seaside, how places have changed over time and animals that live in our seas and oceans.

Africa: Kenya

As part of our learning about different places around the World, we have been looking at the continent of Africa this week. We have spent a few days learning about Kenya. We have learnt some Swahili phrases and learnt about games that children play in Kenya. We have also looked at the story Handa's Surprise which is set in Kenya. During active learning time, we have enjoyed making our own binoculars for safari visits, playing with safari animals, weaving our own fruit basket, creating sunset pictures using chalk and printing with fruit.

NSPCC Number Day

We enjoyed celebrating Number Day in school and did a fantastic job raising money for NSPCC. Look at our fantastic Number Day outfits:

Literacy: All Aboard For The Bobo Road

In Literacy, we have been looking at the story 'All aboard for the Bobo Road' which is set in Burkina Faso in West Africa. We have looked at the traditional African clothing worn in the illustrations and have tried designing our own traditional Africa dresses. See some of our super work below:

Japanese Carp Kites

As part of our learning about Asia, we have looked at Japan. We enjoyed creating our own Japanese carp kites which look fantastic on display in our classroom.

Wow Work

Well done to Scarlet, Harry, Marnie, Cezary, Christopher, Sophia, Matthew W, Daisy and Leon who have all had their fantastic writing selected for our wow work wall.

Japanese Cherry Blossoms

We have enjoyed learning about Japan and seeing the images of the cherry blossom trees in Japan. We used paint and cotton wool to make our own cherry blossom pictures. We have enjoyed displaying them on the window for parents and carers to look at on their way into school.

China Themed Active Learning

As part of our learning on Asia, we have looked at the country of China. We have made our own paper chain Chinese dragons, wrote mandarin numbers in the glitter and explored the red and gold playdough table.

Learning About India

We have looked at the country of India as part of our learning about other places in the World. We have made our own Rangoli patterns using pasta and buttons, used chalk to colour Rangoli patterns and tried building our own version of the Taj Mahal using construction materials.
