Summer Term 1 Overview
Our focus text will be Beegu by Alexis Deacon. Children will use this text and supporting texts such as Man in the Moon by Simon Bartram to write for different purposes. These will include: diary entries, non-chronological reports and writing instructions.
Children will continue to go to their Read Write Inc phonics groups every day 9:00 – 10:00. They will work through set 2 and 3 sounds, particularly focussing on identifying sounds and reading fluently.
Children will work on place value within 100, fractions, multiplication and division, position and direction, money and time.
Children will learn about seasonal changes from Spring to Summer. They will learn how to observe these changes, describe the weather in Summer and use equipment to gather and record the changes in the weather from Spring to Summer. Children will then compare the changes across all the seasons, drawing on our learning from Autumn Term.
Our Country - Children will locate the UK within Europe, name and locate the four countries in the UK and identify their capital cities. Children will compare a town in England and a town in Scotland. Children will also learn about the population of a town and light pollution.
Computer safety – Children will lean how online activity can affect others. They will be able to identify positives and negatives of using technology. Children will learn how to ask for help and recognise kind and unkind comments and how to deal with these.
Symbols in Religious Worship and practice. Children will look at how and why churches are important to believers. Children will know about worship at a church including the symbols, artefacts, music, holy books and other things that happen there such as christenings and weddings.
Art and Design:
Artist Focus: Kandinsky. Children will use paint and oil pastels to create a piece of art based on what might be beyond the galaxy.
Focus: Playing the recorder – Children will know the different parts of the recorder, how to hold it correctly and how to play the notes A, B and G.
Computer Science: Programming a toy. Algorithms and what they are, How algorithms are implemented as programs on digital devices. Use logical reasoning to predict behaviour of simple programs.
Children will build on existing skills within their spoken French language. They will take part in activities using new vocabulary to talk ice-cream using manners, numbers, colours and flavours/ fruit names.
Invasion Games – children will learn a range of invasion games playing small group competitions. children will learn about basic rules and point systems.
