Summer Term

The Ancient Mayans

During the Summer Term, we will be going back in time to the Mayan era and will be discovering key facts about this ancient civilisation.

 

Read below to find out what we will be learning about in the different subject areas:

 

Geography and History: In our history lessons, we will be learning all about the Mayans and identifying the similarities and differences between their ancient civilisation and ours. We will identifying their religious beliefs, recognising how to use their ancient number system and sample the traditional foods linked to this era.

 

Art and Design Technology: As part of our creative learning this term, we will designing and creating replicas of the Chichen Itza, make our own Ancient Mayan masks and use mosaics to create ancient patterns and pictures. We will also be using dance and drama to retell some of the stories of the Ancient Mayan gods.

 

R.E: For our R.E lessons, we will be understanding the meaning of 'journeys' and define religious reflections and expressions. We will be identifying some of the religious journeys people can undertake during their lifetime.

 

Computing: During the Summer Term, we will consolidate our understanding of digital literacy and ICT, as well as using coding to create a range of programs.

 

Science: 'Properties of Materials is the main theme for our science lessons this term. We will be investigating different materials and describe them according to their properties. We will also be investigating chemical changes.

 

Music: During the Summer Term, we will continue to play as a class band with Mr Bellingham. We will secure our understanding of musical composition and we will replicate traditional Mayan sounds.

 

P.E: We will continue to have our weekly PE sessions with Mr Scott, where we will participate in a range of track and field events in preparation for Sports Day. Our weekly Karate session with Sensei Slaney will also continue.

 

French: Madame Walsh will continue to teach our weekly French lesson. We will be developing new vocabulary and skills during this time.

 

Venture Experts: This term, we will continue with our Venture Experts sessions on a Tuesday afternoon. During this time, we participate in a range of activities with different teachers, consolidating skills we have learnt throughout the year.
