British Science Week
Today we used i-pads to investigate all the amazing journeys that take place around the world. We discussed what type of journeys we have been on and researched famous journeys like Johnson’s flight alone from Britain to Australia. We then thought about the journeys that might be made in the future. Finally, we designed our own journey and presented it to the class.
The Harley Gallery
Today we visited The Harley Gallery to create a pot inspired by Ancient Greece. The children made a pinch that joined onto a pre-made pot. Children then added handles and details onto their new creation. They then had to sketch a design they could add onto the pot. Finally, children painted slip onto the pot and recreated their design by scratching the slip.
This week in PE we have been developing our individual possession by playing 1 on 1 matches.
Today in science we began our new topic - Light. We started by discussing what we already knew about the concepts of light and dark. Then, we went on to learn how to define light and dark scientifically. We now know that dark is the absence of light and we need light to see things.
To prove that we need light to see things, we took part in a 'guess what's in the bag' activity. We realised that it was harder to see what was in the bag because there was no light source in there to help us see each object. Once we opened each back it was much easier to see what the object was.
Today in Geography we found out that over 20, 000 years ago most of the world was covered in ice. Now, these huge sheets of ice are found only in Antarctic and Arctic. They are called the polar regions. We researched these and found out even though it is so cold, over four million people live in the Arctic. We investigated the word 'climate' and found out that 'climate' is the type of weather a place has the temperature, the amount of rainfall and the amount of sunlight. The polar regions have very cold weather all year round and there is lots and lots of ice. They have long periods of time where they are in complete sunlight or complete darkness. To end the lesson we thought about different ways we could help protect the Earth.
Today in art we followed instructions to draw spartan soldiers. We had to think of different designs for our weapons.
Today in History we looked at where Greece is in comparison to the United Kingdom. We then used videos, books and websites to research the Greek civilisation. We then were given a timeline and some key dates and facts that we had to put in the correct order. Finally, we presented our ideas to the rest of the class.
