What was the legacy of the Ancient Greeks?
As we settle into our new class we will read the story 'The Dot' by Peter H. Reynolds.
This is an inspiring story of self-expression and creativity.
Vashti thinks she can’t draw. But her teacher is sure that she can. She knows that there’s creative spirit in everyone, and encourages Vashti to sign the angry dot she makes in frustration on a piece of paper. This act makes Vashti look at herself a little differently, and helps her discover that where there’s a dot there’s a way…
In Autumn Term 1, we will be using the focus text, 'Who let the Gods out' to write fact files about Ancient Greece. We will write our own narratives influenced by Greek Myths and Legends. We will also enjoy participating in Drama activities as we re-enact scenes from the Trojan War and take part in our own Ancient Greece Day and Workshops.
This term, we will be recapping our understanding of place value and revising strategies to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. As well as this, we will be developing our understanding of measurement and area.
In Autumn Term 1, we will be learning about states of matter. We will recognise a variety of solids, liquids and gases. Compare and group different materials and develop our understanding that some materials can change state when they are heated or cooled.
During Autumn Term 1, we will be finding out about Ancient Greece.
We will find out who the Ancient Greek people were, when they lived and where and how they were able to establish their empire.
Whilst learning about Ancient Greece we will locate which continent Greece is in. We will look at the major cities in the UK and Greece and compare how some aspects have changed over time.
Throughout the Autumn Term we will describe where the mountains and hills lie in the UK and Greece.
'Aiming High' is our theme for Autumn 1. We will be setting ourselves targets for the new academic year and we will be discussing what makes a positive learner.
Whole school events this half term include; Healthy eating week and Harvest Festival.
In Autumn Term 1, we will be learning about The Journey of Life and Death. Our key question this half term will be; What do people think about life after death, and why do some people think life is a journey?

Being Responsible - Coming Home on Time.
The above are our themes for our learning throughout Autumn 1 and Autumn 2. We will begin to recognise the importance of human rights and we will understand what it means to be part of a community.
Art and Design:
In Autumn Term 1, our focus artist is David Hockney. We will use charcoal to draw faces.
This half term we will create our own pencil case. The user of our product will be Virgo from 'Who Let the Gods Out?'.
In the Autumn Term, Mr Bellingham and Mr Oakton will teach us to sing a variety of melodies. We will develop our confidence in singing and use our voice to accompany melodies. This term, we will use beatboxing and body percussion to create rhythm.
The focus for our learning this half term is, computer systems and networks.
We will describe how networks physically connect to other networks and recognise how networked devices make up the internet. We will outline how websites can be shared via the World Wide Web and describe how context can be added and accessed on the WWW. By the end of this half term we will be able to recognise how the content of the WWW is created by people and evaluate the consequences of unreliable content.
In our weekly lessons with Madame Walsh, we will be developing our knowledge of the French alphabet and sounds. We will revisit previous learning as we continue to develop our understanding of colour vocabulary and numbers to 20.
Mr Scott will continue to teach us PE. In Autumn Term 1, we will be developing our athletics skills.
This half term we will visit Chatsworth House - we will explore the artwork and grounds of this wonderful place.
Ancient Greece Day - We will be visited by an external provider who will help us learn more about Ancient Greece.
