Summer Term 1
Our enquiry question: What can artefacts tell us about Roman Britain?
Our focus text: 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit
English
This half term we are going to be using discussion to form balanced arguments. We will also be writing a Biography about Julius Caesar!
We have looked at the poet Valerie Bloom and have practiced performing her poem 'The River' as a class. Watch our performance below! We are going to write our own poems inspired by 'The River' about volcanoes, after reading the story 'Escape from Pompeii'.

Maths
We will be covering three different topics in maths this half term: decimals, money and time. We will be applying our knowledge of decimals to support us with our learning of money and time.
Science
This half term's science is all about electricity! We will be identifying common objects that run on electricity, constructing simple circuits and learning about their different parts (including bulbs, wires and batteries), and will be able to recognise conductors and insulators.
History
Our History topic this term is getting us really excited! We are going to be learning all about the Romans. We are going to study different artefacts and learn about many different facets of a Roman's life, such as their roads, heating, and cleanliness!
RE
We are going to be learning about Sikhism this term. In Summer Term 1, we will be thinking about the main beliefs of Sikhs and their places of worship.
Art
Our artist focus for this half term is Giacometti. We will be analysing the artwork of Giacometti and then creating our own statues of a Roman soldier, which will be made from clay and wire.
DT
We will be designing and creating battery-operated torches this half term, using our knowledge of electricity that we have learnt in science.
Summer Term 2
Our enquiry question: Does good always conquer evil?
Our focus text: 'The Lost Happy Endings' by Carol Ann Duffy
English
This half term we are going to read and analyse Carol Ann Duffy's 'The Lost Happy Ending'. We are then going to write our very own book reviews about it! Watch this space!
After we have written our book reviews, we are going to take inspiration from Duffy's story to write our own setting description, using expanded noun phrases and similes!
Maths
We have a jam-packed half term full of exciting and important maths! To begin with, we are going to be learning about time. Then, we will move onto statistics, then geometry. In geometry we will be learning about properties of shape as well as position and direction.
Science
In science we are going to be learning about different scientists and inventors! We will be studying:

We have some exciting experiments and creations planned!
Geography
This half term we are going to be learning all about Italy. We will locating Italy on a map, comparing many key aspects to Britain and will be investigating some of Italy's human and physical geographical features. Our exploration of Italy links to our current topic, the Romans.
