English
Spring Term 2
Week 1 and 2
In English we have been learning about non- chronological reports, what these are and how we might use them to provide information. We have focused on the key features such as headings and sub headings. Using the right tense verb and how to structure paragraphs. The children have planned their non chronological reports about the Ancient Egyptians.
In SPaG the children have been focusing on word families and paragraphs. We have also been enjoying learning our spellings and reading the Egyptian Cinderella.
Week 3 and 4
In English the children have continued to learn about non chronological reports. They have planned and written non chronological reports about ancient Egypt. The children presented their reports both visually and verbally. We talked about how to present our reports verbally and be loud, clear and confident. The children did their very own Hummingbirds news round by working in teams to present key facts about ancient Egypt.
In SPaG we have been learning about prefixes and apostrophes and where we use these in our writing. We have also looked at homophones and how these are words with the same sound but different meanings and spellings.
Week 5 and 6
The children have continued to work on how a fairy tale is structured and how they might write their own fairy tales inspired by Egyptian Cinderella. We have focused on planning our stories, writing a beginning, middle and end. The children have used fairy tale vocabulary, paragraphs, fronted adverbials, expanded nouns and similes in their stories.
In SPaG we have focused on spelling rules sc and que, homophones using direct speech in our writing.
World Book Day 2022
This year for World Book Day the children celebrated the story of Alice in Wonderland. We created an Alice themed hot air book balloon illustrated by all the characters from the story and quotes. We then took part in the Booknic where we shared cakes and our books with Sparrow Class. In the afternoon we focused on the scene of the Mad Hatters Tea Party and created story plates. The children used their story plates to enjoy their very own Tea Party with Flamingo Class.
