Summer Term

Would you let fear stop you?

Should animals be kept in captivity?

 

Focus Texts:

             

English:

In Summer Term 1, we will learn how to extend and change story settings and how to use imagery in poetry. In Summer Term 2, we will learn about persuasive writing and write our own persuasive writing on whether or not lions should be kept in captivity. The children will also write their own newspaper account on current events.   

 

Maths:

The children will focus on fractions, time, mass and capacity and the properties of shapes. 

 

Science:

In Summer Term 1 the children will explore the topic of rocks , we will compare and group different types of rocks and understand that soil is made up of rocks. In Summer Term 2 our topic will be light, we will discover that light is reflected from objects and that we need light to see. 

 

Geography:

This term we will be learning about types of forests, where they are in the world and how these forests are different. 

 

SMSC:

In SMSC, we will be learning about ways we can look after our environment like recycling and how we are similar or different to family members and friends. The children will be taking part in local community history month, VE Day celebrations, Fairtrade, Sports Day and transition month. 

 

RE:

During Summer Term 1, we will be exploring how religious festivals are important in Muslim and Hindu religion. In Summer Term 2, we will be looking at inspirational figures in sacred texts and religious history such as Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.

 

PSHE:

In Summer Term 1 we will be looking at staying safe online and making friends on line safely.  In Summer Term 2 we will be thinking about the world around us and how we can look after it. 

 

Art and Design

Our art focus in Summer Term 1 is the Street Artist Banksy. We will use stencils to create our own street art and discuss how we can raise awareness through art. In Summer Term 2, our focus artist is Atta Kwammi, we will be using paper and material to make a colourful woven piece of artwork.  

 

Design and Technology:

In Summer Term 2, we will be designing and making an African inspired tapestry.  

 

Computing:

In Summer Term 1, we will be learning about the internet and we can use the internet to research. In Summer Term 2, we will be learning how to use the program publisher and how to make a poster. 

 

French:

During our weekly French lessons with Madame Walsh, we will be learning about jewellery, tools, description and animals. 

 

PE:

In PE with Mr Scott, we will be developing our tennis and rounders skills. 

 

Music:

In Music this term with Mr Bellingham and Mr Oakton children will be learning to compose a song in both percussion and ukulele and play a song in ukulele.
