Summer Term

Focus Texts:

  The Great Kapok Tree and Journey to Jo'burg.       

 

English:

We will be using the knowledge we heave learned about the Mayans and books we will read to provide inspiration for our writing. By the end of the term we will produce the following written pieces.

  • A non-chronological report on the Maya Civilization.
  • A travel brochure.
  • A biography of Nelson Mandela.
  • A Speech.

 

Maths: 

This term we will be learning about shapes, position and direction, decimals, negative numbers, converting units, and volume.

 

Science:

We will be learning about the Living things and their habitats along with forces.  This includes the following:

  • Describing the differences in life cycles.
  • Describe the processes of reproduction in plants.
  • David Attenborough.
  • Eva Crana.
  • Gravity.
  • Identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction.

 

History:

Our topic for this term is the Mayans and will be learning about the beliefs and rituals of this civilization.

 

Georgraphy:

Linking to our focus text, 'Jouney to J'oburg', we will be learning about South African cities in Geography this term.

 

RE:

There will be two topics covered in RE in Autumn term: beliefs and action in the world, and prayer and worship. We will be looking at the following key questions to guide our learning.

  • How are religious and spiritual thoughts and beliefs expressed in architecture, charity and generosity?
  • How do Sikhs show their commitment to God?

 

Art:

The artists we will focus on in Summer term will be Beatriz Milhazas and Frank Ross. We will produce tropical collage and a landscape of a scene for 'Journey to J'oburg'.

 

DT:

We will be learning about structures in DT in this term and create African instruments.

 

Computing:

This term we will be learning about vector drawing and selection in quizzes.

 

PE:

Children will learning skills in cricket, rounders and hockey this term.

 

Music: 

With our specialist music teachers, the children will be playing a variety of Samba instruments. We will learn traditional Samba rhythms and fills, and play and maintain a part in a Samba band.

 

PSHE:

This term, we will be learning about image sharing online, saving money and ways to budget.
