Autumn Term

Out of this World

Picture 1

During the Autumn Term, we will be blasting off into a journey through space for our topic, 'Out of this World'. We will be learning about Earth and comparing this to other planets. We will be developing our awareness of how to look after our planet and how to be more sustainable and we will be researching facts about famous explorers.

Read below to find out what we will be learning about in the different subject areas:

Geography and History: In our geography lessons, we will be developing our understanding of how to look after the planet and will recognise the importance of recycling. We will explore the history of flight in our history lessons and consider how space travel has changed throughout the years.

Art and Design Technology: As part of our creative learning this term, we will be using different materials and tools to create our own space art and we will make clay models of rockets. We will also be designing and making our own flying toy.

R.E: For our R.E lessons, we will be learning about the Bible and exploring familiar Christian stories.

Computing: During the Autumn Term, we will develop our awareness of how to stay safe online before learning how to use a range of software to present information.

Science: 'Earth and Space' and 'Forces' are the two themes for our science lessons. We will describe the Earth and compare this to other planets and stars. We will recognise and understand forces such as gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction.

Music: During the Autumn Term, we will learn how to play as a class band with Mr Bellingham. We will develop our understanding of musical composition and we will replicate the classical piece by Holst for a planet of our own.

P.E: We will have our weekly PE sessions with Mr Scott, where we will develop our fundamental skills and learn the rules of football. We will also be taking part in a weekly swimming session, as well as a weekly Karate session with Sensei Dave.

French: Madame Walsh will teach our weekly French lesson. We will be developing new vocabulary and skills during this time.

Venture Experts: Our Venture Experts sessions will take place on a Tuesday afternoon. During this time, we participate in a range of activities with different teachers, including radio and broadcasting, STEM, musical theatre and circus skills.
