Summer Term 2023
Is it right to kill an animal for a human?
How have the ways people in Britain spend their leisure time changed during the 20th and 21st centuries?
In Summer Term 1, we will be using the focus text, 'Pig Heart Boy' and we will be publishing our own newspaper reports and writing diary entries. In Summer Term 2, we will be writing a set of instructions and producing a fact file about hamsters.
This term, we will recognise properties of shapes and develop our understanding of statistics. We will also secure our problem solving and reasoning skills in preparation for secondary school.
In Summer Term 1, we will create our own electrical circuits and use symbols to draw a simple circuit diagram. In Summer Term 2, we will revise key skills and carry out different investigations.
During the Summer Term, we will be taking a step back in time and exploring each decade as we think about key questions such as: 'How did music influence fashion?' and 'What is the effect of technology on leisure?'
This term, we will begin to understand why holiday camps became popular in Britain and why the British holiday industry boomed from the 1930s onwards. As well as this, we will be identifying the similarities and differences between a holiday destination in the UK and a destination in Europe.
'Britain' and 'Moving On' are our two themes for the Summer Term. In Summer Term 1, we will host a Fairtrade Café. In Summer Term 2, we will be thinking about transition to secondary school.
In Summer Term 1, we will consider how religious and spiritual beliefs are expressed. In Summer Term 2, we will explore how people's beliefs impact on their lives.
'Health and Wellbeing' is the theme for our learning this term. We will begin to understand mental and emotional health, recognise the benefits of a balanced diet and know how to achieve and celebrate personal goals.
Art and Design:
In Summer Term 1, we will explore surrealism and create a surrealist sketch of an eye. In Summer Term 2, we will link our artwork to our geography learning and weave plastic to make a group image that tells a story.
This term, we will be making a cap to protect British holidaymakers from the sun.
The focus for our learning in the Summer Term is Information Technology. We will focus on blogging this term and participate in the 'Year 6 Blogathon'.
In our weekly lessons with Madame Walsh, we will be exploring French music and using comparative vocabulary.
This term, we will be learning how to play lacrosse and badminton. As well as this, we will be developing our athletics skills in preparation for Sports Day.
